Butter-fly
Oil pastel, 2024, A5

'Pepper Cake' was hand-printed and bound by me (Ilka Gilvesy) at the London Centre for Book Arts. For the sake of the environment, 'Pepper Cake' was printed using a Risograph (RISO). Riso is one of the most environmentally friendly printing methods. 'Pepper Cake' contains over 100 pages, and there is only a limited run of 15 signed copies available.
The characters in the book decide to injest an aspect of one another. The inserts were designed to resemble LSD tabs. These were individually attached to the pages in the book, such that they may be removed. The tabs are also glued into the pals and tongues of the characters.
Digestive, born (2022) out of a love of biscuits and chatting, is a monthly reflective publication from the Visual Communication BR13 studio at the Royal College of Art. We create content based on the collective theme of the month—designed, collected, and shared on a single piece of paper.
Previous issues of Digestive include Digestive, Tunnelling, Leftovers, Collective Mapping, and Crusty Sunburn, where we explore the gut, crumbs of conversation(s), parasites, tunnel vision, pockets, the weather, rock pools, tubes, ideal holidays, nostalgia, and revel in the sharing of Nan’s recipes.
The December issue was inspired by the Christmas dinner we cooked. Each member of the digestive team was responsible for bringing a dish to share with the group. December 2022 Issue: Leftovers
Front of February 2023 Issue: Crusty Sunburn. We based this issue on a series of presentations in an effort to pick our group holiday travel destination. The front of the issue presents all the travel destinations proposed by the members of our group. While the back was reserved for the winning presentation.
